Maxi cardigans are a huge thing this fall and I must admit that once again I'm really into this trend. This was propably the first actually cool day in dc and I had to wear my cashmere sweater underneath this cardigan to stay warm. It makes the outfit a bit boring though. I believe a leather or silk shirt would have been better. It needs a little contrast. But I had to make a sacrifice so I wouldn't freeze to death. ;)

These boots are being re-sold so I can take these with me to Finland. I've worn these once in Finland before and it was a disaster. I did not remember how much gravel there is in the streets of Helsinki. Oh lord. Leather soles do not go well with gravel. My feet were sore after just few steps because I could feel all the little stones under my feet. This time I'm prepared. Btw, I was surprised how few decent shoe repair places there are in DC. Does anyone know a good one around here?

//Pitkät neuleet ovat iso juttu tänä syksynä ja tähänkin trendiin myönnän olevani melko ihastunut. Tämä oli varmaan ensimmäinen oikeasti viileä päivä DC:ssä ja jouduin pukemaan neuleen alle vielä cashmir neuleen lämmittämään. Se tosin tekee asusta vähän tylsän. Kontrastin vuoksi esim. nahka tai silkki olisi ollut kivempi vaihtoehto. Uhrauksia oli tehtävä, jotten olisi jäätynyt pystyyn. ;)

 

Nämä kuvien nilkkurit ovat parhaillaan suutarilla ja niihin laitetaan puolipohjat, jotta saan ne mukanani suomeen. Olen käyttänyt viime talvena näitä kerran suomessa ja se oli totaalinen katastrofi. En muistanut miten paljon soraa Helsingissä on kaduilla ja nahkapohjat eivät oikein soran kanssa käy yhtee. Jalat oli rikki jo muutaman askeleen jälkeen kun kaikki ihanat pikkukivet pureutuivat pohjan läpi jalkaan. Tällä kertaa olen varautunut. Yllätyin muuten miten vähän kunnollisia suutareita DC:ssä on. Jos joku sattuu tietämään hyviä, kertokaa ihmeessä.

It's so funny how I've always thought that people from countries that have seriusly cold winters would be able to cope with cold weather better than people from countries that don't have freezing winters. I have learned that's not true.

Winters in Finland are lot colder than winters in DC, but we also have quite warm winter gear in Finland. And people actually wear it when it gets cold. But I've noticed that here it's totally different. Because it's not that cold, people don't really have any winter clothes or shoes (or they just don't want to wear it) and quite honestly seem to be freezing.

Like on this day, we went to the playground. I wore what you can see in these pictures and I can tell you that I was cold. My son had a fall/winter onepiece on and I wasn't even quite sure that was enough. So you can propably guess it wasn't a warm day. But as we got to the playground I noticed that there were few other kids and all they had on was jeans and a jacket. No hats, no mittens, nothing. One little girl actually wore sandals. And I've seen this a lot during last winter too. People are walking around in flip flops in january. :D It's so funny to me. And I seriously could not do it. Winters are not that warm in here. I need warm shoes and clothes!

Well anyway, here's my very laidback outfit from last weekend. I adore this teddy bomber from Nelly.com. It's so warm and comfortable. I've tried to stay away from the clothes I'm taking with me to Finland so I wouldn't get bored with my travel clothes but these air max sneakers are going with me. Although it could be that I'm not able to wear them a lot because if the weather.

Now I'm off to the hair salon as I mentioned yesterday.

// Hassua, miten olen aina ajatellut, että kylmien talvien maista tulevilla ihmisillä olisi jotenkin parempi kylmänsietokyky, kuin ihmisillä, jotka tulevat maista, joissa talvet eivät ole jäätäviä. Olen oppinut ettei se pidä paikkaansa. Suomen talvet ovat huomattavasti kylmempiä kuin DC:n talvet, mutta suomessa siksi on myös aika kattava valikoima kaikenlaista talvivarustetta, jota ihmiset myös kylmällä säällä käyttävät. Täällä se menee ihan toisin. Koska ei ole normaalisti kovin kylmää, ihmisillä ei ole kunnon talvivaatteita tai -kenkiä (tai sitten eivät vain tykkää käyttää niitä) ja rehellisesti vaikuttavat jäätyvän. Esimerkiksi päivänä, jona tämä asu on kuvattu, olimme leikkipuistossa ja minulla oli nämä vaatteet päällä. Palelin. Pojallani oli välikausihaalari ja jännitin jopa, onko sekin liian vähän. Arvaatte siis, ettei tosiaan ollut lämmin päivä. Puistossa kuitenkin muilla lapsilla oli farkkuja ja ohkasia takkeja. Ei hattuja, ei lapasia, ei mitään. Joillain jopa sandaalit.

Ja tätä näkyy täällä paljon talvisin. Ihmiset kulkevat sandaaleissa tammikuussa. Se on jotenkin todella kummallista mielestäni. :D Ja itse ainakaan en pärjäisi täällä ilman lämpimiä vaatteita. Kyllä talvella kuitenkin välillä pakkasen puolelle mennään ja normaalisi ainakin nollissa ollaan. Hyrr. Ei sandaaleita nollakelillä näihin jalkoihin. :D

 

No jokatapaukssa tässä on viime viikonlopun rentoa asua. Tykkään mielettömästi tästä nelly.comin teddy bomberista. Ihanan lämmin ja pehmoinen. Olen yrittänyt pysyä kaukana vaatteista, jotka aion pakata suomeen mukaan, jotten sitten kyllästyisi niihin reissussa totaalisesti, mutta nämä air maxit pääsevät kyllä mukaan silti. Voi tosin olla, ettei suomessa juuri ole kelejä niiden käyttämiseen. 

 

Nyt kampaajalle, kuten eilen mainitsinkin.

Bumbags are a thing for me. I dont know why I'm so drawn to these. Theres something ugly in a cute way that makes me wanna wear them with everything. And the fact that you don't have to carry anything in your hands or shoulders really makes it even more awesome.

I have to admit this outfit is not my favourites. I think this sweater is going to be found on my fleemarket table. I just don't feel it somehow.

 

I'm super happy about my hairdresser appointment tomorronw. My hair has grown crazy fast and I'm really annoyed with it at this point. It's length is just bad. I found a salon online that should be great and can't wait to see what they come up with. I'm quite open for any ideas about my hair.

//Vyölaukut ovat mun juttu. En tiedä mikä niissä vetää puoleensa niin. Niissä on jotain söötillä tavalla rumaa, joka saa hinkumaan niiden käyttöä. Ja tietty se fakta, ettei mitään tavaraa tarvitse kantaa käsissä tai olalla, on pelkkää plussaa.

Muuten on kyllä pakko myöntää, että tämä asu ei kuulu lemppareihini. Tämä neule varmaan päätyy kirpparipöytään. Se ei vaan tunnu hyvältä.

 

Olen ihan superonnellinen huomisesta kampaaja-ajastani. Hiukseni ovat kasvaneet hullun nopeasti ja olen aika ärsyynyt niihin tällä hetkellä. Tämä pituus on vaan yksinkertaisesti huono. Löysin netistä kampaamon, joka tarinan mukaan on hyvä, joten odotan innolla mitä he saavat aikaiseksi. Olen aika avoin ehdotuksille.

So I've done a lot of thinking about packing for my trip to Finland and these pictures actually tell excactly what I have in mind. I need pieces that all go together, so surprisingly I'm going to go mostly with black and other basics. My camel coat, leather pants, black cashmir knit, white cable knit and over the knee boots as well as another pair of black booties are definately going with me. I'm also thinking of a leather skirt and a white button down. These would get me far and I think I'd be able to mix and match quite easily. My only problem is that I think I might need a thicker winter coat and I've gotten rid of all my really warm winter coats here in DC because I haven't needed any. Also I noticed that I really don't have many black coats. Mostly just lightweight fall jackets. I need to think about this coat thing a bit more. I don't really want to go buy something that I'll only be using in Finland. Something like the one Gisele is wearing in the fourth picture would be awesome though and I would definately be wearing it here too. Well, we'll see. :)

// Paljon on tullut pohdittua pakkausasioita suomen reissun varalle ja nämä kuvat itseasiassa tiivistävät sen, mitä on mielessä ollut. Tarvitsen mukaan vaatteita jotka käytännössä kaikki käyvät yhteen, joten paljon mustaa ja muita perusjuttuja on lähdössä mukaan. Beige takki, nahkahousut, musta cashmirneule, valkoinen neule ja ylipolvensaappaat joidenkin mustien nilkkureiden lisäksi pääsevä mukaan ainakin. Lisäksi olen miettinyt pakkaavani valkoisen kauluspaidan ja jonkun nahkahameen. Näillä pääsisi jo melko pitkälle ja olisi helposti keskenään yhdisteltävissä. Ainoa isompi ongelma on se, etten usko omistavani tarpeeksi lämmintä talvitakkia, sillä olen tänne tullessa aika pitkälti hankkiutunut eroon suurimmasta osasta kunnon lämpimiä talvitakkeja. Niille kun ei täällä ole samalla lailla käyttöä. Asiaa pohtiessani huomasin myös, ettei minulla oikeastaan ole mustia lämpimämpiä takkeja juurikaan. Lähinnä kevyitä takkeja syksyyn. Pitää siis hieman takkiasiaa vielä miettiä. En haluaisi lähteä ostamaan takkia, jota tulee käytettyä vain suomessa. Tosin joku tuollainen ihana takki, kuten Giselellä on neljännessä kuvassa päällään,päätyisi varmasti käyttöön täälläkkin. Noh, jää nähtäväksi mitä keksin. :)

Another sunny day in DC. Fall in here is almost like summer in Finland.
I've been having a hard time with my closet for these past months. I'm waiting to get all the summer clothes out and fall/winter stuff in. I don't have room for all of it and these summery fall weathers make it hard for me. I'm also in a process of tossing a lot of clothes. As I mentioned earlier I'll be taking some to a fleemarket in Finland. Unfortunately shoes and bags are mostly too heavy to take with so I'm going to have to list them on eBay propably. And I hate it. It's so much work to take the pictures and pack and send it. Or actually it's not that muck work it's just that I never have the right size boxes and all to put the stuff in so I need to improvise. :D And to add to it, my son doesn't make it any easier by jumping on me and all the stuff I'm trying to pack.

But about this outfit; I don't really know how I ended up putting on something so girly as pink sweater and skirt with heels. Pink and grey go great together in my opinion but I usually pair them together in something bit less ladylike. Maybe it's because of the hat that I felt comfortable in this, who knows. These heels though! I've said it before and I'll say it again; SO comfortable. When I bought these for my sisters wedding I seriously never thought I'd wear them again but here I go again. Sometimes I surprise myself.

Now I'm off to gym. More things black tomorrow!

//  Jälleen yksi aurinkoinen päivä DC:ssä. Syksy täällä on lähes kuin kesä suomessa.
Olen paininut vaatekaappiongelmien kanssa viime kuukausina. Odotan, että voisin tyhjentää kaapit kesävaatteista ja ottaa syys/talvivaatteita tilalle, mutta nää kesäkelit syksyllä tekee tästä haastavaa. Tarkotus olis samalla heivata kaapista muutenkin vaateita ja niin kuin aiemmin totesinkin, osa niistä lähtee mukanani kirpputorille suomeen. Tylsä vaan, että kengät ja laukut on niin painavia, ettei niitä ole järkeä lähteä suomeen lennättämään. Joudun varmaan listaamaan ne eBayhin. Inhoan sitä. Hirveästi tekemistä, että saa kuvat otettua ja sitten vielä myydyt tavarat pakattua ja lähetettyä. Tai no, ei siinä ehkä niin hirvee duuni oikeesti oo, mutta mulla ei ikinä ole sopivan kokoisia laatikoita tai pussukoita niille tavaroille a joudun improvisoimaan. :D Ja pikkumies ei toki helpota pakkaamista yhtään roikkumalla hihassa ja hyppimällä kaiken päällä.

No mutta, asusta sen verran, että en tiedä yhtään miten päädyin pukemaan päälle jotain niinkin tyttömäistä kuin vaaleanpunaisen neuleen, hameen ja vielä korot. Harmaa ja vaaleanpunainen käyvät yhteen mielestäni ihan huippuhyvin, mutta yleensä paritan ne johonkin vähän vähemmän naiselliseen asuun. Ehkä hattu teki jotain ratkaisevaa, jotta viihdyin tässä asussa niinkin hyvin. Mutta nämä kengät! Olen sanonut ennenkin ja sanon uudestaan; niin mukavat! Kun ostin nämä kesällä siskoni häihin, en tosissaan kuvitellut käyttäväni näitä sen jälkeen enää toiste, mutta tässä sitä taas mennään. Yllätän itsenikin välillä.

Black maxi dresses are usually somehow too fancy for me to wear on a normal day. But this one makes an exception. It's really casual. I wore jeans under it because the fabric is so thin you can see through this dress. Allthough I might have worn jeans under it anyways to be honest. I kinda like it that way.

I have to say a word or two about these booties. These are one of the most comfortable shoes I have including all my sneakers and flats. I bought these years ago from Zara and have used these more than my other shoes all together propably. My only problem with these is that they are starting to be all worn out. I've taken these to a cobbler for hundreds of times and they've always been able to do magic and make these last a little longer. Now I think I'm going to have to let them go soon. It really makes me sad. I've also kept my eyes open for a 2nd hand pair of the same shoes but haven't had any luck yet. Still kepping my thumbs up.
I actually have another pair of high heel booties from Zara that I really love and is quite worn already. I don't know why these shoes are for some reason so comfortable.

Do you guys have any shoes you are really loving and would hate to get worn out?

// Mustat maximekot on yleensä jotenkin liian hienoja, jotta osaisin käyttää niitä arkipäivänä. Tämä tosin tekee poikkeuksen olemalla hyvinkin arkinen. Puin mekon alle farkut, sillä kangas on ohutta ja läpikuultavaa. Tosin olisin saattanut pukea farkut alle, vaikkei näin olisi ollutkaan, sillä tykkään tästä yhdistelmästä.

Pakko sanoa muutama sana näistä kengistä. Nämä ovat ehdottomasti yhdet mukavimmista kengistä jotka omista, mukaan lukien kaikki lenkkarit ja muut matalatkin kengät. Olen ostanut nämä vuosia sitten Zarasta ja käyttänyt varmasti enemmän kuin kaikkia muita kenkiäni yhteensä. Ainoa ongelma nyt on se, että ne alkavat olla melko kuluneet. Olen käyttänyt kenkiä suutarilla satoja kertoja ja aina niihin on onnistuttu puhaltamaan vielä lisää henkeä. Nyt kuitenkin luulen, että ne alkavat tulla tiensä päähän. Se on surullista. Olen pitänyt silmiä auki jos löytäsin jostain vähän käytettynä samat kengät, muttei ole vielä ollut onnea matkassa. Pidän edelleen kuitenkin peukut pystyssä.

Omistan itseasiassa toisenkin parin korkealla korolla varustettuja nilkkureita Zarasta, joista todella pidän ja jotka alkavat olemaan tiensä päässä. En tiedä mikä näistä kengistä tekee niin mielettömän mukavat jalassa.

Double Leather

This is by far my favourite outfit this fall. I just love love love the double leather. I don't know why I've never tried it before like this. But I do know I'll do it again. To make the outfit bit lighter I paired the leathers with off-white lace. I've bought this skirt when I was 6 months pregnant and was glad to see it still fits. :D It is bit loose but doesn't fall of. I was quite lucky to have a tiny baby bump so I didn't have to get any maternity clothes. Or actually I did buy one pair of maternity pants from ASOS but even though I ordered the smallest size (btw why is the smallest maternity size is us4 in many cases?) it ended up to be too big even on my 9th month.

 

Anyway, I wore this outfit during the weekend as we visited the Zoo. My boy was so happy to see all the cheetahs and elephants. I think were gonna have to visit there more often when he gets older. It's been really warm these last two days, so skirt was a good choise. In few weeks I'll just be dreaming of skirts with bare legs in Finland. I heard it has been snowing there. Need to do some changes on my packing list. :D

 

I'm going to do a post about my packing. I'll be travelling quite light but it's going to be much colder in Finland so I need to be prepaired. Layering is the key. But more about this later on.

// Tämä on mun helposti lempparein asu tältä syksyltä. Mä oon ihan heikkona tähän tulpanahkaan. En ymmärrä miten ei ole aiemmin tullut mieleen yhdistää nahkavaatteita näin, mutta tiedän, että tämä ei ollut viimeinen kerta. Keventääkseni asua hieman, puin nämä nahat luonnonvalkoisen pitsin kanssa. Olen ostanut tämän pitsihameen ollessani kuudennella kuulla raskaana ja olin iloinen huomatessani, että se edelleen on sopiva. :D Pikkasen väljä se on, muttei putoa päältä kuitenkaan. Mulla kävi melko tuuri ja raskausmaha oli aika pikkuinen, joten tarvetta millekkään äitiysvaatteille ei ollut. Tai itseasiassa ostin yhdet äitiyshousut, mutta vaikka ne oli pienentä tarjolla olevaa kokoa (mistähän johtuu, että monesti 36 koko on äitiysvaatteissa pienin?), ne olivat liian isot ollessani vielä viimeisillänikin raskaana.

 

No joka tapauksessa, tämä asu oli päälläni viikonloppuna kun kävimme eläintarhassa pojan kanssa. Pikkumies oli niin onnellinen siellä gepardien ja norsujen kanssa. Meidän täytyy varmaan alkaa vierailemaan siellä useammin kun poika vähän kasvaa. Täällä on taas ollu todella lämmin, joten hame oli tuolle päivälle oikein hyvä valinta. Muutamien viikkojen päästä Suomessa voin van haaveilla hameista paljaiden säärien kaverina. Suomessa on kuulemma jo satanut luntakin. Pitänee  vielä viilata vähän siis pakkauslistaa.

 

Ajattelin tehdä postauksen pakkauksestani. Matkustan kevyesti, mutta Suomen keleihin varautuneesti. Kerrostus tulee siis olemaan avainasemassa. Mutta palataan siihen.

Just a quick hello and yesterday's outfit before heading to playground with my little one. 

Navy and black is a color combination that I'm really into right now. Unfortunately I only have a few navy pieces in my closet and this sweater from forever21 is one of them. We were heading downtown so I thought it would be appropriate to wear lipstick :)

//Pikamoikat ja eilisen asu ennenkuin lähdetään leikkipuistoon pikkumiehen kanssa. Tummansininen ja musta on väriyhdistelmä, joka tänä syksynä on erityisesti miellyttänyt. Harmi vaan, että vaatekaapissani ei kovin montaa sinistä vaatekappaletta ole. Tämä forever21 neule kuitenkin on yksi niistä harvoista. Lähdimme käymään kaupungilla, joten ajattelin, että olisi kohtuullista edes laittaa huulipunaa :)

Today we drove to Pentagon City to do some hardcore grocery shopping from Costco. I had my son on a carrier on my back most of the time, so sneakers were the obvious choice of footwear. My gray jacket matched the sneakers and everything else was black as usual. To make it a little more interesting I wore this see throught t-shirt underneath and tied another jacket to my waist. This t-shirt is the one I told you earlier from H&M Studio collection. The on in my size. :D

This is all for now. I gotta go and take a nap. My little one kept me up all night last night.

// Tänään ajoimme Pentagon Cityyn tekemään ruokaostoksia isolla kädellä Costcosta, joka on paikallinen tukku- tyyppinen elintarvike ja roinakauppa. Kannoin poikaamme kantorepussa selässäni suurimman osan ajasta, joten lenkkarit olivat melko ilmiselvä kenkävalinta reissulle. Harmaan takin sovittelin kenkiin sopivaksi ja loppuasu tutusti mustaa. Jotta, musta asu ei olisi tylsääkin tylsempi, laitoin harmaan takin alle hieman läpikuultavan teepparin ja sidon toisen takin vielä vyötärölle. Tämä t-paita on muuten, se H&M Studio- malliston paita, josta aiemmin puhuinkin. Omassa koossani. :D

Tässä kaikki tällä erää. Nyt on pakko mennä päikkäreille, kun pikkumies valvotti koko viime yön.

About a month ago I got a little obsessed over a jacket. Army green bomber jacket to be exact. I went through about thousand online stores before I found this reversible one from romwe.com. I actually thought it was a padded fall jacket but it turned out to be just this lightweight silky thing. Nevertheless I really like it. And to my surprise I actually like this other side of the jacket almost even more than the green side. the reason I went through so many webshops is that I didn't want the jacket to be made out of shiny fabric and every single one I found was just that. Funny thing is that so is this and I still love it. I might keep my eyes open for the padded non-shiny one but this will do perfectly for now before it gets too cold to wear it. Outfit pics with the green side up coming soon. :)

// Kuukausi takaperin sain päähäni pakkomielteen takista. Armeijanvihreästä bomber- takista, jos tarkkoja ollaan. Kävin läpi varmasti tuhat erilaistaa nettikauppaa sopivaa etsiessä, kunnes vihdoin löysin tämän käännettävän takin Romwe.comista. Luulin tilanneeni kevyesti topatun syystakin, mutta tämä itseasiassa on hyvin ohut silkkinen takki, sen sijaan. Jokatapauksessa tykkään tästä kovasti. Omaksi yllätyksekseni tykkän itseasiassa ehkä jopa vähän enemmän tästä kuvioidusta puolesta takkia. Syy miksi kävin tuhannet nettikaupat läpi tätä etsiessäni, oli se, etten halunnut kiiltäväpintaisesta materiaalista tehtyä takkia ja vain sellaisia tuli vastaan. Hauskaahan tässä on se, että niin on tämäkin, mutta tykkään tästä silti kovasti. Saatan pitää silmiä auki syystakkiverision kanssa vielä, mutta siihen asti kun tällä täällä tarkenee, tämä passaa oikein hyvin. Kuvia vihreästä puolesta tulossa piakkoin. :)
